Lingua Franca Macaensi 2007

This is the second contribution of mine which is posted under the 'Macaensi' title. I have promised to explain why I have chosen 'macaensi' and not 'macaense'. The Jesuits started printing books in the old Portuguese colony of Macau in the 1580s....about 450 years ago. Where did the word Macau derive from? According to some writers, it was named after a Chinese godess "A Ma". The Portuguese used the prefix 'Ma' added 'ca' (over here, in Portuguese) and ended with 'ensi' (pertaining to?) in Latin.....thus "Macaensi". My parents are the descendents of the 'Macanese' or as we say today "Macaenses" (de Macau). I am also a honorary 'Macaense' of Macaé, I was granted a diploma several years ago.

For a reference to this Latin word, you may check "Christiani Puerii Institutio" a book which was published in Macau in 1588! Here are the URLs which may interest you. The last paragraph of the second URL is written in Portuguese. www.humanismolatino.online.pt/v1/pdf/C003-001.pdf and redalyc.uaemex.mx/redalyc/pdf/361/36100201.pdf Well, this is my modest research on this key-word: Macaensi. Let's move on to a subject which is attracting the attention of the world today....Latin America.

Argentina's ENARSA will operate in the 55,000 km2 area of the Ayacucho 6 in the Orinoco Belt in a joint venture with Venezuela'a PDVSA, in a region with an estimated reserves of 1.3 trillion barrels of extra heavy crude oil, according to an AFP report. Venezuela and Argentina have already signed agreements last week, for closer cooperation in many areas of activities. President Néstor Kirchner made a political statement, he said: "US in 'absolute error'", inferring that the United States is interfering in certain political issues of Latin American countries. You may read what was posted in the media last week, most of these reports were not published nor posted by the mainstream media in Brazil. Here are the URLs which I have chosen last week:

In Sunday's edition of O GLOBO, João Carlos de Luca wrote an article "Justo Equilíbrio", he started with these lines: "O Brasil tem reservas provadas de mais de 13 bilhões de barris de petróleo, mas precisa descobrir pelo menos 1 bilhão por ano para manter a auto-suficiência conquistada em 2006. É uma necessidade estratégica." I think Engineer de Luca is quite modest, the reserves of Brazil today might be much higher. If we were to compare with the reserves of 1.3 trillion of Venezuela, it means that Brazil would take another century or more to catch up with PDVSA. From the annual reports of Petrobras & PDVSA of 2006 we may find out that Brazil may catch up with Venezuela in revenues &/or profits very soon, perhaps in 2008 or 2009. Here is a short translation of João Carlos de Luca's words: " Brazil has proven reserves of over 13 billion barrels of petroleum, but it has to discover more than one billion per year to be able to maintain its auto sufficiency in oil which was obtained in 2006. It is a strategy which is necessary".

Here is an interesting report on Hugo Chávez's marketing campaign overseas. Read the text which was written by Richard Gott and published in the UK. www.venezuelanalysis.com/articles.php?artno=1964 After provoking Uncle Sam in New York last year, Hugo Chávez is provoking John Bull in London today!
